Conall Halvey - National Leadership Forum
Leland & Gray 11th grade student leader and West River Valley Thrives Advisory Board Member, Conall Halvey, attended the Community Anti-Drug Coalitions of America National Leadership Forum from February 4-7, 2019. He was among 12 youth and 19 adults representing 10 coalitions, social service agencies, school representatives, and healthcare agencies from around the state. 36 states, U.S. territories, several countries, and over 3,000 people were in attendance at this annual event, the largest of its kind focusing on substance use education and prevention issues.
On February 6, the Vermont delegation attended the annual Capitol Hill Day, where substance use education and prevention coalitions from across the nation met with their respective Senators and Congresspersons. Conall made presentations to Congressman Peter Welch, Senator Patrick Leahy, and the staff of Senator Bernie Sanders. You may watch the full video of Conall's presentation to Senator Leahy on YouTube (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pht-ToGph1k) or on the home page of West River Valley Thrives at wrvthrives.com.
Vermont's Congressional Delegation listens and understands the issues, challenges, and successes of the work of the prevention coalitions, community groups, social service agencies, and many other partners in our state. Not only that, they strongly support the funding that helps make the local work these organizations do in our communities in substance use education and prevention possible! They were also invited to our state to see first-hand the work that is being done, the successes that have been achieved, and the challenges we continue to face. It takes a whole community approach to make and keep our youth, community members, and towns healthy! Thank you, Conall, for your contributions, enthusiasm, insights, thoughtfulness, and dedication to supporting your peers and dedicating yourself to all you do for your family, friends, school, and community!
