Leland & Gray Applies for Recognition by the National Education Policy Center

In February, Dr. Dorinne Dorfman submitted a detailed application to the National Education Policy Center (NEPC) in Boulder, CO for recognition of Leland and Gray’s progress towards improving student learning and school climate. The award is described as follows:

The National Education Policy Center seeks to identify and recognize excellent public high schools that actively strive to close opportunity gaps by engaging in practices that build on students’ strengths, thereby creating engaging and supported learning opportunities for all their students. The Schools of Opportunity that we recognize will serve as models, informing and inspiring the efforts of educators and communities throughout the US to become high schools that promote both excellence and equity (http://opportunitygap.org).

Within the next few days, we will learn if our school has been selected as a finalist. If chosen, a NEPC team will conduct a site visit before the end of this school year. The application, combined with the site visit, will result in determining the final 2016 Gold Recognition and Silver Recognition Schools. In 2015, NEPC identified five Gold Schools and twelve Silver Schools, all of which are located outside of New England.
